What It Does

The Coach Adjustment Rating measures the change in a team's performance immediately following halftime. It calculates the difference between a team's Net Rating in the 3rd quarter and their Net Rating across the entire first half. A positive rating indicates successful adjustments, while a negative rating suggests the opponent adjusted better.

Methodology

The primary formula is: Adjustment Rating = (3rd Quarter Net Rating) - (1st Half Net Rating). Net Rating is calculated as 100 * (Points Scored / Possessions) - 100 * (Points Allowed / Possessions). The rating is typically aggregated as a 10-game rolling average to identify current coaching effectiveness and smooth out single-game anomalies.
