Fan Sentiment Fade
Profit by betting against popular teams.
Overview
This pillar identifies when massive, emotional fanbases inflate a team's odds beyond their true probability of winning. It provides a contrarian signal to position against overhyped favorites, particularly in esports.
What It Does
The Fan Sentiment Fade pillar quantifies the 'hype tax' on popular sports and esports teams. It analyzes social media volume, compares public betting tickets to the actual money wagered, and factors in a premium for legacy teams. This process generates a score indicating when public sentiment has created a valuable opportunity to bet on the underdog.
Why It Matters
Prediction markets can be inefficient due to emotional betting from large fanbases. This pillar systematically finds these inefficiencies, offering a clear edge by capitalizing on predictable, irrational market behavior.
How It Works
First, it identifies high-fanbase teams in upcoming matches. Then, it analyzes social media for hype spikes in the 48 hours before a match. It compares the percentage of total bets (tickets) to the percentage of total money wagered to spot divergences between the public and sharper bettors. Finally, these factors are combined into a 'Fade Score' to signal a contrarian opportunity.
Methodology
A 'Fade Score' is calculated using a weighted formula: (Social Volume Spike * 0.4) + (Public Bias Ratio * 0.5) + (Legacy Premium * 0.1). The Public Bias Ratio is defined as (% of Tickets) / (% of Money); a ratio above 1.5 suggests significant public overvaluation. The Social Volume Spike is the percentage increase in positive mentions over a 30-day baseline.
Edge & Advantage
This pillar exploits the gap between a team's public perception and its statistical reality, an inefficiency that creates consistent value on the underdog's side.
