Gym Momentum & Social Proof
Position on the gym, not just the fighter.
Overview
This pillar analyzes the 'winning culture' effect within MMA gyms. It tracks the performance of teammates on the same fight card to gauge psychological momentum, a factor often missed by traditional stats.
What It Does
The analysis quantifies the impact of a gym's success on an individual fighter's performance during a single event. It tracks early-card results from teammates to create a real-time momentum score for fighters competing later. This is combined with the gym's overall recent win streak and qualitative reports on camp morale.
Why It Matters
Success is contagious, and so is failure. This pillar provides an edge by capturing the powerful psychological influence of social proof, which can significantly boost confidence or create pressure that statistics alone do not reveal.
How It Works
First, we identify all fighters from the same training camp on a given fight card. As the event progresses, we log the results of teammates fighting on the undercard. This creates a 'Same-Night Win Ratio' that is applied as a momentum factor to teammates fighting later, helping predict their performance.
Methodology
A Momentum Score is calculated: Score = (0.6 * Same-Night Win Ratio) + (0.4 * Gym's 90-Day Win Ratio). The Same-Night Win Ratio is updated live during an event. The Gym's 90-Day Win Ratio is based on all professional bouts for that gym in the preceding 3 months. A score above 0.7 suggests strong positive momentum.
Edge & Advantage
This provides a significant edge in live betting, as the market is often slow to price in the psychological impact of a teammate's fresh win or loss.
