Head-to-Head Matchup Dominance

Quantifying the psychological edge in direct matchups.

68% Win Rate For Historically Favored Player

Overview

This pillar analyzes the historical performance and direct competition results between two specific golfers. It moves beyond general rankings to reveal player-specific dynamics and psychological advantages that often determine outcomes.

What It Does

It aggregates every round where two players have competed in the same tournament, calculating head-to-head win percentages and average score differentials. The pillar also compares their performance against common top-tier opponents to gauge relative strength. This creates a dominance score indicating which player has a historical and mental advantage.

Why It Matters

General player rankings don't capture the nuances of a direct rivalry. This pillar provides a crucial edge by identifying 'bogey players' and historical patterns that can predict upsets or confirm favoritism in close contests.

How It Works

First, the system pulls all historical tournament data for two selected players over the last three years. It then isolates rounds where both competed, directly comparing their scores to build a win/loss record. Finally, it calculates a weighted score based on head-to-head wins, average stroke difference, and performance against common rivals.

Methodology

A Dominance Score is calculated as a weighted average: (0.6 * H2H Win %) + (0.25 * Normalized Stroke Differential) + (0.15 * Common Opponent Score). The H2H Win % covers the last 36 months. Stroke Differential is normalized based on course difficulty. The Common Opponent Score compares their win rates against the current top 25 ranked players.

This pillar uncovers hidden psychological advantages that public trading odds, often based on simple world rankings, frequently miss.
