Legislator Health & Scandal Vulnerability
Gauging lawmaker fitness for key votes.
Overview
Analyzes the physical and political health of individual legislators to predict their availability and voting behavior. It acts as a political 'injury report', identifying vulnerabilities that could swing close votes or derail legislation.
What It Does
This pillar systematically tracks and scores legislators on two fronts: physical health and scandal exposure. It aggregates data from official records, news reports, and social media to detect signs of vulnerability, like medical leave, unexplained absences, or escalating ethics investigations. The pillar then synthesizes these factors into a single 'Vulnerability Score' for legislators in pivotal roles.
Why It Matters
In a narrowly divided government, the absence or compromised vote of a single individual can determine the fate of major laws, appointments, and budgets. This pillar provides a unique edge by quantifying the risk of a key player being removed from the field, an event that traditional polling often misses.
How It Works
The system continuously scans public data sources for health and scandal-related events concerning specific lawmakers. Each event is weighted based on its severity, recency, and potential impact on voting capacity. These weighted events contribute to separate Health and Scandal scores, which are then combined to produce an overall Vulnerability Score for each legislator.
Methodology
A legislator's Vulnerability Score (VS) is calculated as the maximum of their Health Score (HS) and Scandal Score (SS). HS is a function of age, recent hospitalizations, and roll call absence rate over the last 90 days. SS is determined by the severity of active investigations (e.g., Ethics Committee vs. DOJ), negative media sentiment analysis over 30 days, and any official party censures.
Edge & Advantage
This pillar moves beyond party-line analysis to focus on the human factor, giving you an edge in predicting outcomes of razor-thin votes where individual availability is the deciding variable.
