Momentum & ATS Streak Analysis
Track who beats the odds, not just who wins.
Overview
This pillar analyzes a team's performance Against The Spread (ATS), not just their win-loss record. It reveals a team's true momentum relative to market expectations, identifying overvalued and undervalued teams.
What It Does
It calculates and tracks a team's recent ATS record, focusing on identifying winning or losing streaks. The analysis goes beyond a simple cover or no cover, measuring the margin of victory against the spread. This helps quantify how strongly a team is outperforming or underperforming expectations.
Why It Matters
A simple win-loss record can be misleading. This pillar provides a crucial edge by showing if a team is consistently beating the market's projections, which is a powerful predictor of future performance before the trading lines fully adjust.
How It Works
The system gathers closing point spreads and final scores for each game. It then determines the ATS result for each team in their last 5 and 10 games. Streaks of three or more consecutive ATS wins or losses are flagged as significant momentum indicators, and the average cover margin during these streaks is calculated.
Methodology
Analysis is based on a rolling 10-game window. The core metric is 'Cover Margin', calculated as (Actual Point Differential - Point Spread). A positive value indicates a cover. An 'ATS Streak' is defined as 3 or more consecutive games with a positive or negative Cover Margin. The pillar aggregates these streaks and a team's overall ATS record (e.g., 7-3 ATS L10).
Edge & Advantage
This provides an edge by spotting teams that bookmakers and the public are consistently mispricing, offering value before the market corrects itself.
