Offensive Line Continuity & Win Rate
Quantifying the offensive line's game-winning impact.
Overview
This pillar analyzes the health, cohesion, and performance of a team's offensive line. It provides a crucial, often overlooked, data point for predicting game outcomes and player performance in the NFL.
What It Does
It combines continuity metrics, like the number of snaps the starting five linemen have played together, with advanced performance data such as Pass Block Win Rate and Run Block Win Rate. This creates a composite score that ranks each unit's effectiveness. The analysis also accounts for recent injuries and roster changes to the line.
Why It Matters
The offensive line is the engine of any offense, directly impacting both the passing and running game. A cohesive, high-performing unit gives a team a significant advantage, providing a predictive edge that isn't always reflected in the trading line.
How It Works
First, we identify the projected starting five offensive linemen for the upcoming game. We then calculate a continuity score based on the percentage of snaps they have played together this season. This is combined with their team-level Pass and Run Block Win Rate percentiles, creating a final OL Unit Score.
Methodology
The OL Unit Score is a weighted average: (Continuity Score * 0.4) + (Pass Block Win Rate Rank * 0.3) + (Run Block Win Rate Rank * 0.3). The Continuity Score is calculated as (total snaps played by the 5-man unit) / (team's total offensive snaps). All data is based on a rolling 5-game window to prioritize recent performance.
Edge & Advantage
This pillar provides a data-driven look at the battle in the trenches, an area casual bettors often ignore in favor of skill position players.
