Pacer Workload & Spell Management
Predicting bowler performance through workload analysis.
Overview
This pillar analyzes the recent bowling workload of fast bowlers to predict potential fatigue and its impact on performance. It's a key tool for trading on player prop markets in cricket, where a bowler's physical condition is critical.
What It Does
It aggregates data on overs bowled, spell intensity, and rest days for individual pacers over specific time windows. The pillar then calculates a proprietary 'Fatigue Score' to identify bowlers who are overworked and may underperform. This analysis accounts for different match formats, like Tests versus T20s, which have vastly different physical demands.
Why It Matters
The market often overlooks the cumulative effect of a long season or a series of back-to-back matches. This pillar provides a quantitative edge by flagging players whose performance is likely to decline due to physical exhaustion, affecting their pace, accuracy, and wicket-taking ability.
How It Works
First, the system collects match-by-match bowling statistics for targeted fast bowlers. It then calculates rolling totals for overs bowled in the last 7 and 14 days. This data is combined with the number of rest days between matches to generate a Workload Index, highlighting bowlers in a high-risk 'red zone'.
Methodology
The core metric is the Workload Index (WI), calculated as: (0.6 * Overs_Last_7_Days) + (0.4 * Overs_Last_14_Days). This WI is adjusted down by 15% for every 3 full rest days between matches. A WI score above 28 for a Test match or 15 for a limited-overs series indicates a high fatigue risk.
Edge & Advantage
This provides a data-driven edge by identifying physically compromised bowlers who are overvalued in player performance markets, creating opportunities to bet 'under' on their props.
Key Indicators
-
Overs Bowled (7-Day Rolling)
highTotal overs bowled by a pacer in the last 7 calendar days, a primary indicator of short-term fatigue.
-
Rest Days Between Matches
highThe number of full days a bowler has had off between competitive matches, crucial for recovery.
-
Spell Intensity
mediumThe average number of overs bowled per spell in recent matches, indicating how the bowler is being used within a game.

-
Provides comprehensive, match-by-match player statistics including overs bowled, dates, and match formats.
-
A deep statistical database for historical cricket data, useful for establishing player baselines.
