Player Efficiency & Form Index
Pinpoint player hot streaks and cold slumps.
Overview
This pillar analyzes a player's recent performance using advanced statistics to identify trends not visible in season averages. It provides a data-driven snapshot of current form, crucial for predicting short-term outcomes in player-focused markets.
What It Does
The index calculates a weighted score by combining a player's Player Efficiency Rating (PER), True Shooting Percentage (TS%), and Usage Rate. It specifically focuses on performance over the last 5 to 10 games to accurately capture a player's current form. This moving average approach highlights sustained performance shifts while ignoring single-game anomalies.
Why It Matters
Season-long averages are often misleading because they hide recent injuries, role changes, or slumps. This pillar offers a more accurate, up-to-date view of a player's ability to contribute right now. This provides a significant edge in short-term player prop markets where current form is paramount.
How It Works
First, we collect game-by-game stats for a player's last 10 contests. Next, we calculate the PER, TS%, and Usage Rate specifically for this recent window. We then compare these short-term metrics to the player's season-long baseline to identify significant trends. Finally, these trends are combined into a single 'Form Index' score, indicating if a player is performing above or below their typical level.
Methodology
The index is a weighted average: (Rolling 5-Game PER * 0.4) + (Rolling 5-Game TS% * 0.4) + (Rolling 5-Game Usage Rate * 0.2). Each metric is normalized against the player's season average to create a 'Form Score'. For example, a score of 1.10 indicates 10% better performance than their average. The 5-game window balances responsiveness with stability.
Edge & Advantage
This pillar provides a clear, data-driven signal on player momentum, allowing you to position against public perception that often relies on outdated season averages.
