What It Does

The pillar continuously monitors social media mentions across platforms like Twitter and Reddit for a specific crypto asset. It then compares the rate of change in social volume to the asset's price momentum. A divergence is flagged when price reaches a new high or low, but social chatter fails to confirm the move, signaling trend exhaustion.

Why It Matters

Social volume divergence acts as a leading indicator of retail sentiment shifts. It provides an edge by revealing when a rally is losing popular support or when a sell-off is attracting quiet accumulation, often preceding a significant price reversal.

How It Works

First, we aggregate real-time social media mentions for a target cryptocurrency. Next, we apply a moving average to smooth the social volume data and compare its trend to a price moving average. The system automatically detects and scores divergences, such as a higher price high with a lower social volume high, which indicates a potential top.

Methodology

The core calculation compares a 14-period Simple Moving Average (SMA) of daily social media mention counts to the asset's 14-period price SMA. A bearish divergence is flagged when the price SMA makes a higher high while the social volume SMA makes a lower high. Conversely, a bullish divergence is flagged for a lower price low with a higher social volume low. The divergence's strength is scored from 1 to 100 based on the percentage difference between the two trends.
