Training Camp Pedigree
Behind every champion is a world-class camp.
Overview
This pillar evaluates a fighter's training environment, including their gym's success, sparring partner quality, and coaching staff. It provides a crucial look into a fighter's preparation, a key factor often missed by standard statistical analysis.
What It Does
It aggregates performance data from a fighter's entire gym to gauge momentum and strategic development. The pillar analyzes the rankings and recent success of primary sparring partners to assess the quality of day-to-day preparation. It also factors in the historical win rate and experience of the head coach in high-stakes matchups.
Why It Matters
A fighter's camp directly influences their skill progression, game plan, and in-fight adjustments. This pillar reveals hidden advantages or weaknesses that are not apparent from a fighter's individual record, offering a significant edge in predicting fight outcomes.
How It Works
First, we identify the fighter's primary training camp and coaching staff. Next, we calculate the camp's aggregate win percentage over the last 18 months across all promotions. We then create a 'Sparring Partner Index' based on the rankings of their main partners and combine these metrics into a single Camp Pedigree Score.
Methodology
The Camp Pedigree Score is a weighted average: Camp Win Rate (40%), Sparring Partner Index (40%), and Head Coach Success (20%). The Sparring Partner Index is the average official ranking of a fighter's top three known training partners. Head Coach Success is measured by their win percentage in main events or title fights.
