Underdog value in 'Pick-em' Fights
Finding hidden value in evenly matched fights.
Overview
Analyzes close-odds boxing and MMA matches to identify when public bias creates profitable opportunities on the underdog. This pillar helps you bet against the hype in 'pick-em' scenarios.
What It Does
This pillar scans upcoming fights for near-even odds, defined as an underdog moneyline between +100 and +150. It then tracks line movement from open to current to detect shifts caused by public betting volume. Finally, it scores social media sentiment and media narratives to see if the favorite is overvalued due to hype.
Why It Matters
In evenly matched contests, public opinion and media narratives can create small but significant pricing inefficiencies. By identifying when a favorite's odds are inflated by hype, this pillar uncovers value on the overlooked underdog, providing a contrarian edge.
How It Works
First, the system identifies all fights within the 'pick-em' odds range. It then calculates the line movement since the odds opened, flagging fights where the favorite has become more expensive. Concurrently, it analyzes social media posts and news articles for sentiment and narrative bias, assigning a 'Hype Score'. A signal is generated when a high Hype Score for the favorite coincides with significant line movement against the underdog.
Methodology
A 'pick-em' fight is defined as having an underdog with moneyline odds from +100 (evens) to +150. The Line Movement Delta is calculated as (Current Favorite Odds - Opening Favorite Odds). Social Sentiment Score is derived using NLP on Twitter and Reddit data, ranging from -1 (very negative) to +1 (very positive) for each fighter. A strong signal requires a Line Movement Delta greater than 15 points and a fighter Hype Score differential of 0.4 or more.
Edge & Advantage
This pillar provides an edge by systematically exploiting the gap between a fighter's true probability and their hype-inflated market price in closely contested matchups.
