Whale Accumulation Index
Follow smart money before the market does.
Overview
This pillar analyzes the on-chain activity of the largest wallets, often called 'whales', to identify patterns of accumulation or distribution. By tracking these significant capital flows, it provides an early warning signal for potential large-scale price movements.
What It Does
The index aggregates data from public blockchains, focusing on wallets holding over $1 million in a specific asset. It monitors the net change in balances for these top-tier wallets and flags large transactions moving to or from exchanges. This combined data creates a score indicating whether smart money is buying (accumulating) or selling (distributing).
Why It Matters
Whales have the capital to significantly impact market prices, and their actions often precede major trends. This pillar offers a glimpse into their strategy, providing a predictive edge over retail sentiment or lagging technical indicators.
How It Works
First, we identify and continuously track wallets exceeding a $1M threshold for a given asset. Second, we calculate the net flow of funds into or out of these wallets over specific time windows, like 24 hours and 7 days. Finally, we weigh this flow against the volume of large transactions to generate a final accumulation score.
Methodology
The core index is calculated as: (Net Inflow to Whale Wallets in USD / Total Whale Holdings in USD) * 100 over a rolling 7-day period. 'Whale Wallets' are defined as non-exchange addresses holding over $1M. The index is adjusted for 'Dormant Coin Days Destroyed' to give higher weight to the movement of older, more significant holdings.
Edge & Advantage
This provides a direct view of institutional and high-net-worth sentiment, often front-running news cycles and retail-driven price action.
