Chin Durability & Recovery Index
Quantifying a fighter's ability to take a punch.
Overview
This pillar assesses a combat sports athlete's chin durability and recovery speed. It provides a crucial rating for predicting knockout vulnerabilities and overall fight resilience, moving beyond simple win/loss records.
What It Does
The Chin Durability & Recovery Index analyzes historical fight footage and statistics to create a score. It quantifies how well a fighter absorbs powerful strikes, how many times they have been knocked down or visibly staggered, and how quickly they regain their composure. The index heavily weights recent performances and adjusts for the power of past opponents.
Why It Matters
A strong chin can neutralize a power puncher's greatest weapon, making this index critical for predicting upsets and fight outcomes. It provides a significant edge in markets related to knockouts, fight duration, and method of victory.
How It Works
First, we gather data from a fighter's last 5-7 fights, including official knockdowns and significant strikes absorbed. Second, we perform a qualitative video analysis, scoring each instance of being staggered and noting the time to recovery. These events are then weighted and aggregated into a composite score, which is normalized against the average for their weight class.
Methodology
The index is calculated using the formula: Index = (100 - (KD_Penalty * 15) - (Stagger_Penalty * 5)) * Recovery_Multiplier. KD_Penalty is the number of knockdowns in the last 5 fights. Stagger_Penalty is the number of visibly wobbled moments. The Recovery_Multiplier ranges from 0.8 (slow recovery) to 1.2 (instant recovery), assessed visually from fight tape.
Edge & Advantage
This pillar offers a data-driven look at a fighter's physical resilience, a factor that commentators discuss but rarely quantify, providing a distinct edge in knockout-related predictions.
