Coalition Composition & Base Integrity
Tracking the strength of a candidate's coalition.
Overview
This pillar analyzes the stability and enthusiasm of a candidate's core demographic groups. It provides a deeper look beyond headline polls to assess the true health of a campaign's support base.
What It Does
It identifies the key voter blocs that formed a winning coalition in past elections. Then, it tracks current polling data within these specific groups, such as suburban women or union workers. The pillar compares current support and enthusiasm levels against historical benchmarks to generate a Base Integrity Score, flagging potential weaknesses.
Why It Matters
Elections are won by assembling and motivating specific groups of voters, not just by winning a generic popular vote. This pillar provides an early warning system, detecting cracks in a candidate's foundation before they are reflected in national polls. This gives a significant edge in predicting electoral performance.
How It Works
First, the pillar defines the historical winning coalition for a given election. It then aggregates cross-tab polling data for these key demographics from reputable sources. It calculates a stability score for each group by comparing current support to historical levels and applies an enthusiasm multiplier. These scores are combined into a single, weighted Base Integrity Score.
Methodology
The core metric is the Base Integrity Score (BIS). For each key demographic 'd', a Support Score is calculated: (Current Polling % for d / Historical Benchmark % for d) * Enthusiasm Factor. The Enthusiasm Factor is the ratio of 'very enthusiastic' voters now vs. the historical baseline. The BIS is the weighted average of all demographic Support Scores, with weights determined by each group's share of the electorate in the prior election. Analysis uses a 14-day rolling average of polls.
Edge & Advantage
This pillar reveals underlying weaknesses in a campaign's support that topline polling numbers often miss, providing a crucial leading indicator of future performance.
