DeFi TVL & Yield Velocity
Track capital flow and protocol health.
Overview
Analyzes the relationship between Total Value Locked (TVL) and yield rates to distinguish sustainable growth from speculative hype. This pillar helps identify DeFi protocols with genuine utility and 'sticky' capital.
What It Does
This pillar measures the rate of change in a protocol's TVL against the stability and source of its offered yields. It calculates a 'velocity' score to determine if capital inflows are driven by long-term value or temporary, high-emission incentives. The analysis focuses on separating organic growth from mercenary capital that is likely to exit quickly.
Why It Matters
Simple TVL can be a misleading vanity metric, easily inflated by unsustainable token rewards. By analyzing the quality and velocity of that TVL, this pillar provides a leading indicator of a protocol's future health and token price stability.
How It Works
First, it aggregates TVL and protocol revenue data from on-chain analytics platforms. Second, it tracks the APY offered in key liquidity pools, noting the percentage derived from token emissions versus real yield. Finally, it compares the 7-day and 30-day TVL growth rates to changes in yield, flagging protocols with high growth but rapidly declining real yields.
Methodology
The core metric is the 'Capital Stickiness Ratio', calculated as (30d % Change in TVL) / (30d % Change in Token Emission Rate + 1). A ratio > 1 suggests sticky capital, while a ratio < 1 suggests reliance on incentives. It also tracks the ratio of Protocol Revenue to TVL to measure capital efficiency.
Edge & Advantage
It provides an early warning system for protocols reliant on inflationary tokenomics, allowing you to exit positions before mercenary capital flees.
