Director/Star Career Arc & Peak Analysis
Tracking the rise and fall of star power.
Overview
This pillar analyzes the career trajectory of key talent, like directors and lead actors, to determine if they are at their commercial peak, rising, or in decline. It provides a data-driven view of their bankability, moving beyond single-hit wonders to assess sustained momentum.
What It Does
The analysis calculates a time-weighted Return on Investment (ROI) for an individual's last 5 to 7 major projects. By plotting these data points, it determines the slope of their career arc. This reveals whether their commercial power is accelerating, plateauing, or waning, providing a predictive signal for their next project's success.
Why It Matters
Public perception of a star's bankability often lags behind reality, creating market inefficiencies. This pillar offers a quantitative edge by identifying undervalued rising talent or overvalued declining stars before the broader market sentiment catches up.
How It Works
First, we identify the key talent for a film and compile the worldwide box office gross and production budget for their recent projects. Next, we calculate the ROI for each film. A time-decay formula is then applied, giving more weight to recent projects, to generate a career momentum score and trajectory.
Methodology
The core metric is the Time-Weighted Career Trajectory Slope, calculated using a linear regression on the ROI of the last 5-7 films. Each film's ROI (Worldwide Gross / Production Budget) is weighted using an exponential decay factor: Weight = e^(-0.25 * years_ago). The slope of this weighted regression line determines the career phase: positive (growth), near-zero (peak), or negative (decline).
Edge & Advantage
This provides an objective measure of commercial momentum, allowing you to position against media hype and focus on the actual financial track record of key talent.
