Ensemble Cast Aggregate Star Power
Gauging a film's strength beyond its lead.
Overview
This pillar analyzes the collective box office draw of a film's supporting cast. It provides a data-driven measure of a movie's 'roster depth', which is often a key, overlooked factor in its commercial success.
What It Does
It identifies the top five billed supporting actors and calculates their individual historical box office average, adjusted for inflation. These scores are then aggregated into a single 'Ensemble Power Score'. This quantifies the total star power the supporting cast brings to the project, independent of the main star.
Why It Matters
The market often overvalues the lead actor's influence while underestimating a strong ensemble's ability to attract a wider audience. This pillar reveals hidden strength in films with a deep cast and flags potential weakness in movies relying solely on one big name.
How It Works
First, we identify the top five non-lead actors from official cast lists. For each actor, we pull the inflation-adjusted domestic gross for their last five significant film roles within a 10-year window. We then average these figures to create an individual power score, and finally, sum these five scores to generate the pillar's final output.
Methodology
The core metric is the Ensemble Power Score (EPS). EPS = Σ(Actor_Avg_Gross) for the top 5 supporting actors. Actor_Avg_Gross is the mean inflation-adjusted domestic box office gross of the actor's last 5 qualifying roles (non-cameo, significant screen time) within the past 10 years. Data is primarily sourced from Box Office Mojo and The Numbers.

This provides a quantitative edge by focusing on the collective cast, a factor that is often discussed subjectively but rarely measured systematically.
