What It Does
It systematically tracks estimated advertising expenditures across digital, social, and traditional media for new TV shows and seasons. Simultaneously, it monitors the prominence and duration of a show's placement on its native streaming platform's homepage. These financial and visibility metrics are then synthesized into a single 'Promotional Priority' score.
Why It Matters
A network's marketing budget is a direct investment in a show's success. High spending and prime placement create a powerful feedback loop that drives initial viewership, a critical factor for renewal decisions and industry buzz, often before performance data is public.
How It Works
First, we aggregate estimated ad spend data from industry intelligence sources for a show's launch window. Second, we conduct daily tracking of the show's visibility on its streaming service, scoring its position on the homepage. Third, these two data streams are weighted and combined into a Promotional Priority Index. Finally, this index is benchmarked against historical data from other shows on the same platform to forecast performance.
Methodology
The pillar calculates a Promotional Priority Index (PPI). This index is a weighted average of an Estimated Ad Spend Score (EASS) and a Platform Visibility Score (PVS), tracked from 14 days before launch to 14 days after. PVS is calculated daily: (Banner Placement * 5) + (Top Row Feature * 3) + (New & Notable List * 1). The final PPI is normalized against the platform's historical average for tentpole releases.
