Method of Victory Probability
Predicting how the fight ends, not just who wins.
Overview
This pillar analyzes a fighter's historical performance to calculate the statistical probability of them winning by KO/TKO, submission, or decision. It provides a data-driven edge for specific, often high-payout, method of victory markets.
What It Does
The model aggregates each fighter's win and loss history, categorizing every outcome. It then cross-references a fighter's offensive finishing tendencies with their opponent's defensive vulnerabilities. This creates a probability distribution for the three main victory outcomes, adjusted for factors like recent performance and fight camp changes.
Why It Matters
Most bettors focus on the simple win/loss outcome, leaving value in prop positions. This pillar quantifies the likelihood of specific finishes, allowing users to identify mispriced odds in the 'Method of Victory' and 'Goes the Distance' markets.
How It Works
First, we pull career fight data for both competitors from sources like UFCStats. The system then calculates each fighter's historical win percentages by KO, submission, and decision. It also calculates their opponent's loss percentages for the same methods. Finally, these two profiles are combined and weighted to produce a final probability for each outcome.
Methodology
The core calculation is a weighted average: P(KO) = (0.6 * Fighter A KO Win %) + (0.4 * Fighter B KO Loss %). A recency bias is applied, giving 1.5x weight to fights within the last 24 months. The final probabilities for KO, Submission, and Decision are normalized to sum to 100% of the fighter's overall win probability.
Edge & Advantage
This pillar provides a statistical counterpoint to narrative-driven odds, uncovering value in prop position markets that are less efficient than simple moneyline positions.
