What It Does

The model establishes a baseline power profile for each professional player using historical match data on serve and drive speeds. It then continuously monitors new match data for statistically significant deviations from this norm. A sustained spike in velocity, especially without a corresponding change in technique, triggers an alert.

A 'hot' or delaminated paddle provides a significant, often illegal, competitive advantage that can lead to major upsets. This pillar provides an early warning signal, allowing traders to anticipate unexpectedly dominant performances from players who might be flying under the radar.

How It Works

First, we aggregate a player's shot velocity data from the last 90 days to calculate their mean speed and standard deviation. During a live or recent match, we compare their current average shot speed against this historical baseline. If the new average exceeds a predefined threshold, like 3 standard deviations, the system flags a potential power surge event.

Methodology

The core calculation uses a Z-score for anomaly detection. Z = (X - μ) / σ, where X is the current match average velocity, μ is the 90-day rolling average velocity, and σ is the 90-day standard deviation. A Z-score greater than 3.0 is considered a high-confidence power surge event. The model also cross-references paddle model changes.
